What should you do first after a crash in Bridgeport?
Bridgeport accident towing starts with safety, not the truck. Call 911 if anyone is hurt, move the cars off the road only if it's safe, and don't discuss who was at fault; those are the first steps ICBC lists after a crash. Our Bridgeport towing guide covers the basics of any tow, and this page covers the crash and claim side.
On Bridgeport Rd, a lot entrance or side street is often a safer place to wait than the curb lane. On Hwy 99 near the Bridgeport Rd exit, stay buckled in or get behind the barrier; our Hwy 99 safety checklist explains why. When it's safe, call for accident towing; Zip Towing's Bridgeport service runs 24 hours.
What details does ICBC want you to collect at the scene?
ICBC's after-crash guidance asks you to record the following for every vehicle and driver involved, plus any witnesses. Do it before the tow truck loads anything, because once the cars move the scene is gone. Our tow truck checklist adds what to do with keys and valuables:
- Each driver's name, contact details, licence number and province.
- Plate number, year, make and model of every vehicle.
- Insurance details if a vehicle isn't from BC.
- Witness names and contact details.
- Date, time, location, weather, road conditions and each car's lane and direction.
- Photos of the scene, all vehicles, their plates and the damage.
How do you report the claim before or after accident towing?
You don't need to finish the claim before the car is moved. ICBC's page on how to report a claim online says online reporting is open 24 hours for the registered owner, principal driver or lessee, and you sign in with your ICBC details, BC Services Card or online banking credentials. Phone lines run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and that's the route for passengers, non-owner drivers and witnesses.
Have the police file number ready if you have one. ICBC's collision process then moves through a claims representative, a damage estimate, repairs and any deductible. Keep the tow reciept and note the drop-off address, because your adjuster will ask where the car is. Our page on BCAA and ICBC towing coverage explains what each one pays for.
Who pays for the tow, and what is the ICBC Towing Program?
ICBC's damage estimate page says to ask whether the towing company is part of the ICBC Towing Program. If it is, it can bill ICBC directly for towing and storage once your claim is submitted and coverage is confirmed. If not, you pay and then submit your eligible receipts for reimbursement consideration, so repayment isn't automatic.
ICBC also notes that towing companies charge a daily storage rate from the day the car arrives until it's removed, and that it can help arrange moving the vehicle out of a storage yard. So ask about the program and the total price imediately, on the first call. Zip Towing confirms the price on the phone before we hook up, and our guide on what to tell the dispatcher lists the other questions worth asking.
Where does your car go after Bridgeport accident towing?
You choose, with ICBC. ICBC says Repair Network shops can estimate and repair your car and bill ICBC directly, and you can also pick an independant shop outside the network, though it's worth asking about warranties. In some cases the car may need to visit an ICBC claim centre first, so ask your adjuster before the truck leaves if you can, to avoid towing it twice.
A car that won't roll, an AWD car or an EV goes on a flatbed tow, and an EV needs extra care after a crash, as our EV towing guide explains. If a scrape happened in a garage, see parkade towing in Bridgeport. Wet roads bring their own problems; read about Bridgeport towing in rain and snow.
Crash spots around Bridgeport Rd, Sweden Way and the bridge approaches
Crash calls around Bridgeport tend to start at lot entrances along Bridgeport Rd, around the busy stores on Sweden Way, or on the approaches to the Knight Street Bridge and Oak Street Bridge, where shoulders are tight. On Mitchell Island, work traffic and yard gates add their own risks; see accident towing on Mitchell Island for the island's yards and gates.
If the car still runs after a minor bump but has a flat or won't restart, our 24-hour roadside assistance may sort it without a tow. See all our towing services, send us the details, or read more on the Zip Towing blog.
Questions drivers ask

No. The car can be moved first, and you can report online 24 hours a day or by phone from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Will ICBC pay the tow company directly?
If the company is in the ICBC Towing Program, it can bill ICBC once your claim is submitted and coverage is confirmed. Otherwise you pay and submit eligible receipts.
Can I choose where my car is towed after a crash?
Yes. You can pick an ICBC Repair Network shop or another shop, but check with your adjuster first in case the car needs to go to a claim centre.
What should I keep from the tow?
The receipt and the drop-off address. Your adjuster will ask for both.
